Moving Day…

So, it was a moving day of sorts as what I really did was move my comic book collection into a brand new, freshly delivered piece of furniture custom built to house my comic books! It was my birthday (June 10) and my wife totally surprised me by presenting me with this awesome gift.

A few months ago, I mentioned I was looking into some new storage systems to house my collection. Some friends of ours who are cabinet makers took some measurements of my old, white comic book boxes wherein I had been storing my comics in for the last 20+ years. I mentioned I was looking at everything from newer boxes, filing cabinets, and other types of bookcases to move my collection into. Our friends the cabinet makers took some measurements in my studio (this is where I keep my comic collection), sizing up both the area and the volume of space my collection consumed. I thought it was great for them to take a look at my space, but I honestly thought that was going to be for some future, way down the road project they would work on. After all, they are busy running their business doing their wood crafting.

As it turned out, they ended up crafting a custom made, library style drawer system for my comic books. There are a total of 16 drawers, divided into two separate, vertical drawer cabinets. They are designed to hold up to Golden Age comic book, 4 mil Mylar sleeves. The handles for each drawer is just like a library card catalog drawer. There’s even a slot to add in a small card indicating what’s inside. I was absolutely stunned and surprised with joy when my wife presented me with this as my birthday gift. As I told my wife, this was the best gift EVER!!!
